So tired...

I think I will just go over there and lay down...to die.

Im so tired. I worked 53 hours this week and get to look forward to a 56 hour work week next week (that doesnt include all the days I will be more than likely staying late to make sure things get done).
I hate Christmas. A crap ton of money and stress on one day of one-upping each other. Adults who love Christmas scare the crap out of me because Im certain they are on some sort of mind altering drugs or are secretly serial killers.

I've been told by my doctor that I cant go down hill skiing. Damn doctors and their stupid rules.

I was really going to write about something else but Im too tired to remember what.

First doctors appointment

Today was our first doctors appointment.

We had to see a nurse first to go over a giant packet of first baby stuff. They usually go over what to expect in every trimester and give you a few different choices on tests to check for......something. Im not sure what I missed because the nurse kept picking up a packet and saying, "Cant do that anymore. Missed that. Over that. Morning sickness?? No? Nevermind. Well are you going to breast feed? No? Ok... would you like a flu shot while your here?"
We got through the packet so fast that the nurse had enough time to run down to the ultrasound lady and sweet talk her into fitting us in.
Usually your supposed to drink a bunch of water an hour before the appointment so they can squish the baby and see it better. The nurse missed the memo that I thought I was around 3 or 4 months and made me pee in a cup to take a pregnancy test before handing me the packet. So my bladder was empty which made the ultrasound lady nervous about letting me in until she saw how skinny I am.

It was pretty freaky watching the baby squiggle around in me. I had assumed I was just gassy a lot but it turns out the baby kicks and punches... a lot...which feels like little gas bubbles right now. Eventually though it wont tickle so much.
We found out that Im not 3 or 4 months. Im 5 months, My due date is April 7th.
We also found out we are having a girl. A squiggly little girl thats all arms and legs...and her feet look huge already.

Mo is very happy.

The Sketchbook Project

I signed up for The Sketchbook Project
Basically you sign up and pay a fee, they send you a sketch book, and you fill it up with whatever the hell you want and send it back to them before the deadline. Then your sketchbook goes on exhibit and gets published in a book.

I thought about just doing the $25 to take part but I liked the idea of having it digitized so if I wanted to share it with other people...who arent in NY...I can.
I think this will really help me to put a little more effort into things. I work my butt off when I've spent money to take part in something.

I think my little sister should join. I know she has a sketchbook but she wont let anyone see it.

Im Batman!

Halloween Decorations

This is my first time living in a house so I was very excited to put up actual Halloween decorations. Mo and I went to a few Halloween stores and bought some cute decorations.
Mo really wanted to get those pumpkin leaf bags but we couldnt find them anywhere so we got a spider leaf bag instead at a dollar store. Sadly most of the legs were ripped when Mo went to put it together so our spider only has 3 legs.

We are the only fun people on the block apparently. No one else has Halloween decorations up.

I think tomorrow Im going to carve pumpkins. Now that its cold out Im not as worried about them rotting too fast. I am a little worried about the squirrels eating them though.

Spiders

I kill 6 spiders a day in this house.
I seriously dont go to sleep without moving and looking under all the pillows and blankets. Mo thinks its silly... so I'll just leave him to die the next time I wake up and a huge brown spider is about to eat his brains.

Mos first Renn Faire

I took Mo to his very first Renn Faire today. I was a little nervous about if he would like it or not because hes kinda hit or miss on the geeky stuff. He would either love it or make fun of the whole thing.

He LOVED it!
He loved the costumes and came very close to buying his own costume. He loved the food. He drooled over the swords and came very close again to buying one. The shows were a little hit or miss but I think he was having a hard time understanding some of the jokes.
He did buy a tail, which hes now trying to freak our cat out with.

I bought a new tea mug, a necklace, and a painting.

The funniest thing that Mo geeked out over at the Renn Faire was a turtle pulling a little cart walking around. He went nuts over it. While he wasnt into giving tips to performers he shoved money in this turtles tip jar like it was singing and dancing.

The epic battle you totally slept through

Last night I was having problems sleeping. Mostly because Mo kept waking me up with time sensitive matters like buying tickets to the midnight showing of Conan the Barbarian.

So around 1am I kinda half woke up to the feeling of hair sliding down my forehead. I went to push it out of the way and got this creepy ass feeling that something just ran across my face.
I sat up and turned on the light to find Mo sleeping on his side facing away from me and a HUGE FREAKING BROWN SPIDER chilling on his shoulder trying to blend in with our blankets.

I jumped up, grabbed a DVD case off the dresser and announced in my calmest half asleep-freaked out-almost-yelling voice, "Dont move! I got this! Im going to kill this sucker!"
My half asleep brain didnt realize that Mo was still asleep and totally unaware of the half dollar sized spider perched on this shoulder like a parrot.

I hit the spider kinda gently at first cause I felt bad about hitting Mo. I screamed "I got him!" and lifted the DVD case up then screamed "Shit! Hes still alive!" as the spider ran down to Mos leg.
The stupid spider was fast and built like a tank. It ran up and down Mo as I wacked at it for a good 30 seconds screaming "Sorry!" every time I hit him.
Finally, the spider got back up to Mos shoulder and I wacked it as hard as I could. The spider crumpled in defeat onto the bed and Mo sat up and looked at me like, "What did I do?" as I pumped my fist in the air and screamed "I got him!!!"

Mo just blinked at me and said, "Why did you hit me?"
"I told you there was a spider! Look! Its freaking huge!"
Mo looked at the spider, "Wow, hes big! You killed him?"

....No, I asked him politely to go to hell, so he did.
Im bummed. I hate spiders and usually run away from them and get someone else to kill them but this time I valiantly squished the sucker myself which probably saved Mo from getting his brains sucked out by the monster and he slept through it!
I didnt even get a thank you.

Lots of paperwork and zero personality

My new job is going well enough.

Im running a store I knew nothing about until my first day. The product is new to me, their process is new to me, and it takes me a half hour to find anything from paperwork to back stocked product because their organization system seems ass backwards to me.

So its going as well as one can expect.

My two complaints so far:
Their communication system is stone age. So Im stuck doing redundant paperwork.

My current staff has the personality of dry toast. They are fine with customers and do what they are told but I might as well just have a bunch of robots. Maybe that will change after they get use to me.

New Job

Started a new job today. Retail store manager...again..

There are some things that make it interesting. Like making custom items for people.
The manager training me informed me that sometimes people want inappropriate things written on stuff.
Me: "What constitutes inappropriate here?"
Her: "Its up to you. One manager wont take any swear words at all. Others are a little more ok with them."
Me: "So I could put George Carlin's whole list of bad words on a wine glass if I wanted to?"
Her: "Your not easily rattled are you?"
Me: "Nope, send me all the crazies you get."

Above are some random things I did to get use to the machines.

Thats not going to fly.

Mo and I seem to have horrible luck renting.

Living in company housing in Vegas was horrible.

In this new little house we are already having problems with the washing machine and with the basement leaking when it rains. I have also already noticed that the landlord calls quite a bit.
We invited the neighbor over when we made BBQ Thursday (our neighbor is awesome btw. I cant wait to hang out with her more) and she told us about how the landlord will come into her house whenever he wants. Sometimes hes walked in while shes been in the shower and once she found him in her house with his kids coloring at the coffee table. Thats just creepy.

Our old landlords from living in MN might just take the cake as the worst ever. Not only did we have mold problems on the bedroom wall, noisy neighbors, cockroaches, and list as long as my arm of existing damages but now they have decided to renovate the apartment and charge us for it as "cleaning to make the apartment livable". They want us to pay $4,000.
Two thousand for leaving the lease early (when it clearly states that if we do abandon the lease we only owe two months rent) and another 2 thousand for "cleaning". In a list provided by their lawyer they got new appliances, redid the bathroom, buffed and waxed the floors, replaced the carpet, replaced the window screens, the blinds, and changed the locks on the doors.
Every single thing on the list was either broken, stained, or scratched before we got there or didnt need to be fixed at all. Actually the screens and the blinds were the only things that didnt need to be fixed they were old but there wasnt anything wrong with them.

Im fuming but also very  happy that I took a lot of pictures of us in the apartment throughout our stay there all the way up until a week before we left. With the pictures you can tell nothing was ever damaged by us.

Cake!

A friend of mine is starting her own bakery and asked if I could help her come up with some logo ideas. Im really flattered and hope she likes even the concept of one of these.

Im going to have to look at some images of 3 tier cakes though... that just turned into a hot mess.

New summer goal...eat my lawn...wait, no...

Mo and I recently moved into a duplex in a very quiet part of MN. I look at it as a test drive to actually buying a house because we get all the fun things that go with having a house without actually having to own it like garbage day, a basement where Mo has free reign to do manly things (so far hes only arranged furniture and skyped his mother down there), and lawn duties.

Anyway, I was hanging laundry today and noticed that we have a crap ton of dandelions in our yard.
Later, I started reading Hunger Games and hit a point where the main character talks about eating dandelions.
So I looked up and thought, "Holy crap. I went to a talk at an art museum in Boston a couple years ago where a guy was promoting his book on cooking with dandelions and I really wanted to try it!"

So all the little legos connected in my brain and I've figured out my next project.
Cooking with weeds!!
...legal ones...

Yes, Im going to make an attempt to feed my lawn to people...mostly Mo....

Not an everyday thing but as the cooking feeling strikes (and Im too lazy to go to the store) I'll forge for food in my yard and post the recipes I try and the results over the summer.

Moving in

Well, I havent been keeping up like I should.

Mo and I went down to Madison over the weekend to see our friends and my family. We had a great time. I was happy to be back.

Sunday we got the keys to our new house. Before we even started moving in we spent the whole day cleaning the house. I refuse to believe that the last people in this house cleaned more than once in the 4 years they were here. We tossed out a carpet because of the smell, scrubbed down every surface, swept 3 times, mopped twice, and when we dusted the lights in the bedroom there was a noticeable difference in brightness. It was disgusting.

We finally got all our things moved in today. The house is 60% unpacked.
Even when we get unpacked there is more work that can be done. I hate the kitchen, bathroom, and second bedroom wallpaper so at some point I'll be ripping it all down (its curling off the walls anyway) and its obvious that at some point there use to be a nice garden at the side of the house so I would really like to work on that.

I also have an idea for a painting that I would like to start working on as soon as I dig out all my art supplies.

Oh, and Im trying to find a job. Busy busy busy...

Update

We are back from Israel. It was a fantastic experience and to be quite honest, I didnt really want to come back to the US. The food is better, families are closer, people are ridiculously open which is refreshing. There was a feeling of life, pride, and unconditional love that you dont see often in the US. Dont get me wrong, Israel had its down sides. Lines dont exist, checking into a hotel is a 3 hour spitting match, drivers are nuts, and you will never see a cheeseburger. Realistically I could see myself living there and being much happier than I will ever be here in MN and thats taking into account how frustrating it is learning a new language.
For the full Israel story I posted everything to my little spin off blog http://yafehisrael.blogspot.com/

We are back. Currently we are living in a hotel because we didnt have a home to come back to.
We signed a lease on a house in a nice neighborhood. It needs some work. I want to rip down the wallpaper from the 50's and the hardwood floors need some love, but the landlord was willing to overlook Mos lack of credit and gave us permission to do whatever we want to the place. We move in on the 15th.

This weekend we will head down to WI to see friends and my family and hand out gifts.

*Edit: I am currently going back through my Israel posts and putting in pictures. Depending on the internet speed in the hotel they should be all up by tomorrow.
